Blazon: Argent, on a pale dancette Azure, a dexter cubit arm Or, supporting with thumb and forefinger an estoile of six points of the first, charged with a maple leaf Gules.
Significance: The badge is that of HMCS LABRADOR, now CCGS LABRADOR, Canada's first icebreaker. The blue and white background represents a lead of water in an ice field. The estoile is an heraldic star, representing the North Star, and is charged with a maple leaf to indicate Canada's role in the Arctic. The hand reaching for the star shows LABRADOR's efforts to reach deeper into the northern ice, becoming the first ship to force the Northwest Passage in both directions.
