Blazon: Azure, on a plate engrailed Argent a griffin's claw Or grasping a staff of Aesculapius in bend sinister Gules.
Significance: The badge refers to Sir Wilfred Grenfell, the medical missionary who established the famous Grenfell Missions in Labrador. The staff and snake are the recognized symbols of the god of medicine Aesculapeus, and thus signify the medical profession. The griffin's claw that holds it is a reference to the crest of the Grenville family, a gold griffin ("Grenfell" is a variant of the name "Grenville"). The background of an engrailed white "plate" on a blue background signifies the icy seas of Labrador, and the ice floe on which Dr. Grenfell almost perished.
