Blazon: Argent, on a chevron Gules, three roses of the field.
Significance: The corps is named after Sir Humphrey Gilbert, the famous Elizabethan soldier and navigator (half-brother of Sir Walter Raleigh) who in 1583 claimed Newfoundland for the British crown. The badge design is an exact duplicate of the shield of Sir Humphrey Gilbert, which is still in use by his descendants.
