Blazon: Sable, arising from waves of water barry wavy Argent and Azure in base, a phoenix Or issuant of flames of fire proper.
Significance: The badge is that of HMCS PHOENIX. The Phoenix is a legendary, immortal bird who at the end of a period of time built in the desert a pyre of spice-wood which it ignited by fanning its wings. In this fire the bird plunged and was burned to ashes out of which there arose a rejuvenated phoenix. As an heraldic charge, it is symbolic of rebirth and renewal - the ability to emerge whole and unharmed from apparent destruction. The barry-wavy base suggests that in this case the phoenix was a creature of the sea rather than the land.
Notes: RCSCC Phoenix originally in Grand Forks, British Columbia
