Blazon: Azure, the crown of the Dauphin of France proper.
Significance: The original HMCS DAUPHIN was named for the town of Dauphin, Manitoba, the site of which was established by the La Verendreye brothers during the French regime. The crown is that of the Dauphin, the Crown Prince of France, for whom the original fort was named. The dolphins in the crown refer to the territory of Dauphinee in France, of which the royal heir apparent was always named Count, just as the British heir apparent is always created Prince of Wales.
