Blazon: Azure, a crozier in bend Or, in the sinister chief a rose Argent, barbed and seeded of the second and over all a lymphad with sail set, flags and pennon flying, and oars in action also Or.
Significance: The design refers to the origin of the name Fredericton and to the city's status as the capital of New Brunswick. The city is named for Prince Frederick, Duke of York (one of the sons of George III) who was Protestant Bishop of Osnabruck. The crozier symbolizes his position as a bishop, while the white rose of York indicates that he was Duke of York. The ancient galley or lymphad is derived from provincial arms of New Brunswick and alludes to Fredericton's status as capital of the province.
