Blazon: Argent, an oak tree proper, fructed Or, the trunk enfiled with an earl's coronet also proper.
Significance: The original HMCS DAERWOOD was to have been named "SELKIRK", but this would have conflicted with an already-named RN ship. The alternative name "DAERWOOD", meaning "Lord of the Wood", was an ancient title of the Earl of Selkirk. The badge alludes to the name, in that the oak tree bearing an earl's coronet can be thought of as "lord of the wood". A secondary significance refers to the ship's motto - DEFENDERE ROBUR ("To protect the oak") - a reference to the ship's role as minesweeper defending the "Heart of the Oak" of the other ships. In this case the coronet can be seen as protecting the oak.
