Blazon: Azure, arising in base and crossed in saltire, the upper portions of a shepherd's crook and a spear, the crook Or and the spear shafted Or, piled Argent.
Significance: The design signifies the role of the corvette in naval warfare -- as an escort or "shepherd" to the convoy under its care, as indicated by the shepherd's crook. However, this shepherd needs to do more than guide his flock. He must protect it against packs of wolves and for this he must be armed to drive away the wolves and kill them if necessary -- hence the spear.
Notes: RCSCC Corvette, Lamaline, Newfoundland
Artist: LCdr Steve Cowan, Area Cadet Instructor Cadre Officer (Sea), Vancouver Island.
