Blazon: Sable arising from a base barry wavy of six Argent and Azure a Great Blue Heron in his vigilance (statant on one leg and grasping in the other claw a stone) proper.
Significance: The Badge is that of HMCS Blue Heron, a Bird Class patrol vessel of the Royal Canadian Navy since 1968. The heron signifies the name. The stone is based on an old fable (usually involving a crane, rather than a heron) that the bird held a stone in its claw so that if by chance it fell asleep, the stone, by dropping, would waken it. Such a crane or heron is said heraldically to be “in his vigilance”.
