Blazon: Azure, on a bezant between two codfish counter-naiant Or, an anchor cabled Gules.
Significance: The Corps is named for the Island of Baccalieu, located off the Bay De Verde peninsula in Conception Bay, an area famous as a fishing ground since the sixteenth century. The word Bacalieu is a corruption of the Portuguese "Baccalhau", meaning "codfish", both probably derived from a Beothuk Indian word. In the design, the blue background represents the sea. The two codfish swimming in opposite directions signify directly the name of the corps. The gold circle in the centre has dual significance: firstly, it suggests the idea of an island; in addition, however, the heraldic name for a gold circle is a "bezant", representing an ancient gold coin of Byzantium, and often used heraldically to suggest the idea of wealth - in this case the wealth of the sea. The anchor indicates the use of the island as a temporary anchorage and alludes to the naval relationships of the corps.
