Blazon: Argent, a pale engrailed Azure charged with a sword palewise point upwards Proper, hilt and pommel Or, garnished with jewels.
Significance: The origin of the name of the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland is shrouded in antiquity. The word "Avalon" itself is mentioned in Medieval romance and is described as "an ocean island not far on this side of the terrestrial paradise". Avalon is represented as the abode of King Arthur, from whence he got his sword "Excalibur", where he was taken to recover from his wounds, and from whence the Britons long expected him to return.

The badge design depicts Arthur's sword "Excalibur" lying on the deep blue of mystery (the sea) and only revealed by the parting clouds of fog that frequently cover the Avalon Peninsula.
