Blazon: Sable, a Mycaenian helmet Or, crested Gules.
Significance: The badge is that of HMS AJAX and represents a helmet of the Trojan War period (c. 1200 BC). Ajax, son of Telamon, King of Salamis, fought on the side of the Greeks. He is described in the Iliad as being of great stature and colossal frame, second only to Achilles in strength and bravery.
